DeMarre Carroll happily poses with the rim he tore down at his local fitness center (Photo)

After a scrappy, inspired, and breakthrough performance in a much-needed Utah Jazz win over the New Orleans Hornets on Friday, Jazz forward DeMarre Carroll dropped this line to the media after his significant role in Utah’s 95-83 conquest:

''I scraped my knee, but that's part of who I am,'' said Carroll, who often goes to a fitness club with reserve guard Earl Watson after practice to continue honing his skills. ''That why I think the fans love me so much. I go out there and leave it all on the floor. A guy like me, I don't take nothing for granted and I don't take no opportunities for granted.''

Yeah, we’re guessing that that particular fitness club may be sending the fourth-year forward a heightened bill later this month. Look at what DeMarre tweeted out to his followers on Monday afternoon:

The caption points out that he broke the rim at Life Time Fitness, and not his team’s practice facility. Yikes.

Carroll is a fascinating player to watch. The Missouri product was well-respected in each stop, but he’s also a bit of a young journeyman – moving from Memphis to Denver to Utah in short order since being drafted back in 2009. He’s a relentless banger, though, willing to put up with inconsistent playing time and usually the bringing a hectic, determined style of ball that tends to win the home fans over and annoy the heck out of the opponents.

And if his throwdown from Utah’s win on Friday was any indication, we wouldn’t be surprised if DeMarre takes down a few more rims in his time. Watch:

Carroll is back in the Jazz rotation after seeing just seven and a half minutes of action over the last two weeks of March. Look out, Lakers. And look out, rims.
