Monta Ellis and Brandon Jennings do their best “Laverne & Shirley” (VIDEO)

It's hard to imagine now, but from 1974 to 1984 the city of Milwaukee — or Burbank's approximation of it — was one of the most popular locations for TV comedy. "Happy Days" was the most popular, of course, but there was also its spinoff "Laverne & Shirley," a tale of two young women (NBA superfan Penny Marshall and Cindy Williams) and the funny situations of their lives. These days, the series exists primarily in syndication on the local independent channels that basic cable rendered irrelevant.

Like these two women, Milwaukee Bucks guards Monta Ellis and Brandon Jennings are an outgoing duo looking to take this city by storm. So, with that in mind, the NBA produced a special video of Ellis and Jennings highlights set to "Laverne & Shirley"'s classic theme song. While we don't get to listen to Monta say "Schlemiel! Schlimazel! Hasenpfeffer Incorporated!" this is still pretty excellent.

Unfortunately, it's founded on some faulty logic. As Jon Hartzell of Bucksketball discovered last week, Jennings and Ellis lead the league in games with more than 15 shot attempts and a shooting percentage under 40 percent. In truth, they're more like the late years of "Happy Days," in which Fonzie and Chachi carried the show, had the same strengths, and created problems because of it.

Still, this video is fun, and I encourage the NBA to continue exploring the "Laverne & Shirley" universe. I expect to see Ersan Ilyasova and Marquis Daniels as Lenny and Squiggy very soon. J.J. Redick can even "Do the Carmine."
