Lamar Odom, attending a child custody hearing, falls asleep on a courtroom bench

In a way, the Los Angeles Clippers schedule that finished at around 6 PM Eastern time with the team’s loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Sunday and doesn’t start up again until Wednesday night at 10:30 New York time was a blessing to Clips forward Lamar Odom. He had to jet across the country for a child custody hearing with his former girlfriend (or, as the venerated New York Post tactfully refers to her, a “baby mama”), and during that procedure LO decided to get a little shut-eye in after the lawyers left the room to discuss the case.

Odom, who has worked on Pacific Time for all but two seasons of his NBA career since leaving his hometown of New York in 1998 to go to school in Rhode Island, could not brave the boredom. From the New York Post:

New York-native and Los Angeles Clippers forward Lamar Odom fell asleep on a hard, not-so-comfortable courthouse bench today as lawyers hashed out his ongoing child custody case behind closed doors.

The 6-foot-10 hoopster’s legs dangled well over the short, second-floor wooden bench. His impromptu nap drew the attention of a Manhattan court officer.

"Excuse me, are you OK?” the officer asked Odom.

After the player said he was fine, the officer said: “I need you to sit up."

Odom complied but slumped over, resting his head on his hand.

As the Post noted, Odom literally turned to a benchwarmer, as he chased that rest.

Odom is in a dispute with his ex-girlfriend Liza Morales, who is the mother of the former couple’s nine-year old daughter, and five-year old son. In a recent column published on Tuesday at The Daily Beast, Morales laments the fact that Odom refused to propose to her in spite of the ex-couple’s decade-long pairing. Odom, and I’m very sorry for bringing this up, is currently married to [insert eventual profession here] Khloe Kardashian; and Morales was not pleased with the couple’s quick courtship and immediate jump into marriage.

Said Liza, in her statement to The Daily Beast:

“As I continue to move on with my life, it can be difficult to avoid hearing about the Kardashians day in and day out,” she said.

Yeah, that’s pretty much how we all feel.
