If style points counted in the NBA, the Washington Wizards would be in playoff contention and this 180-degree, falling to the ground, scoop layup from Blake Griffin would have counted in Saturday night's Los Angeles Clippers game. Instead, Griffin's circus conversion was merely an occasion for color analyst Mike Smith to go hoarse from shouting.
Stay tuned for the whole video to see a fine Griffin shot that did count.
Sacramento Kings forward Donte Green was whistled for a flagrant foul before Griffin's shot. Oh, come on, refs! If you can't blatantly tackle an opponent from behind on a fast break, then all we've got is anarchy.
Griffin's basket didn't count because officials determined he traveled after the in-paint mugging. He still managed to score a game-high 27 points and grabbed 14 rebounds in the Clippers' 109-94 victory.
