For a spell, while he was wondering if the New York Knicks were going to be the third NBA team to cut him in a nine-week span, Jeremy Lin was famously dividing time between teammate Landry Fields' apartment, and his brother's couch. Last week we found out that the Knicks star is renting former Knick David Lee's old place near his team's practice quarters. Today, via the definitely-not-bugging-our-phones chaps at the New York Post, we've learned that Lin has rented out a place closer to the heart of the city.
Though Lin is making less than a million dollars this year with his second-year salary, he's due for a solid pay increase this summer with the Knicks, in a nice confluence of need and New York's own collectively bargained rights to match any contract offer. As a result, he likely feels more than easy in taking on a second apartment downtown. From the Post:
"The two-bedroom W suite comes outfitted with $30,000 to $35,000 worth of Tui Lifestyle furniture.
Rents there range from $3,600 to $8,900 a month, according to Streeteasy.com. The owner of Lin's unit had put the two-bed, two-bath apartment up for sale for $2.315 million before renting it out.
Building amenities include a gym and preferred reservations, seating and in-residence dining at the hotel's BLT bar. Residents also have access to a digital lounge with video games, a movie screening room, cafe, gym and rooftop terrace.
The humble hoops star didn't pick the flashiest apartment in the building, and instead went for a mid-level unit, sources told The Post."
A "mid-level unit" would seem to run about six grand a month, which would be well worth it for a player making … wait, a BLT bar?
There are bars expressly designed to create bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwiches? Apologies to "Jon" from 'Delocated,' but this trumps any sort of potato skins bar; no matter how much you hot-rod it. I've so many questions. Can we create some sort of aioli? Can we include avocado? Are there fancy toothpicks involved? Can we add any deli meats, or is that only allowed at the Club Sandwich bar?
Lin is a restricted free agent this summer, and the Knicks (as you may have noticed both before and after his breakout run) are in bad need of a competent point guard, so it's more or less a given that the team will offer their newest star a big contract once 2011-12 ends. This makes his renting of apartments both in White Plaines, New York and the financial district of the city more than reasonable, considering what he's due to earn, and whatever sponsorship income he might be due to take in.
I say this as someone who has neither been to White Plains, the financial district of NYC, and someone who has never been paid to endorse anything. With that in place, I'll be in New York over the weekend, and if anyone knows any BLT bars worth spending an afternoon at, kindly let me know.
