In February, David Stern will give up his post as commissioner of the NBA after 30 years. That means that Thursday marks Stern's last time announcing the first round of the league's draft. Sensing this, the attending fans in Brooklyn welcomed Stern in their usual way: by showering him with boos throughout the night.
Stern, of course, expected it. So, after one particularly heavy booing right before announcing the Washington Wizards' pick of Georgetown product Otto Porter, Jr., Stern responded by asking for more: "I can't hear you."
Check out the video above (via SB Nation) and consider how things will change next June when current deputy commissioner Adam Silver takes over these duties. Maybe he'll have to come out in costume so the fans don't get separation anxiety.
After the jump, check out full video of Stern's opening remarks to the assembled crowd and TV viewers. Yes, there are more boos.
Stern's the man NBA fans love to hate. We won't know how much we'll miss him until he's gone.
