Chandler Parsons and the Houston Rockets hire a party bus for a fan that asked him to prom on Twitter

Twitter’s pretty cool. It allows for a direct, real-time line between any of its users, and if handled appropriately, it can serve as a nice form of communication between fans and the famous. Whether that’s good-naturedly ribbing Larry King for his latest Larry King-ism, or congratulating Roy Hibbert on a season well-played, if you walk into an @ reply with some charm and tact, you might get a nod in return.

This is exactly what Houston area high school student Stephanie Flores came through with in May. The young Houston Rockets fan decided to throw caution to the Twitter wind in asking Rox swingman Chandler Parsons to swing on by, man, to her high school’s prom. Here’s here initial reach-out:

@chandlerparsons pleaseeee make my life and escort me to my prom on May 31st!!! A simple response would make up for it. I am a huge fan!!!

— Stephanie Flores (@steph_marie03) May 20, 2013

Parsons, a Florida native who has likely been away from Texas since his Rockets were dismissed from the playoffs in early May, responded after several of Flores’ friends and family-members re-tweeted her initial proposal:

Thanks for the invite @steph_marie03. Unfortunately I'm not in Houston. I hope you have a great time!! Be safe. — Chandler Parsons (@ChandlerParsons) May 21, 2013

@chandlerparsons You responding back means everything! Thanks so much! Go Rockets!

CHANDLER PARSONS RESPONDED TO ME!!! AHHHHH!!! :D — Stephanie Flores (@steph_marie03) May 21, 2013

The story didn’t end there, though. Parsons is notorious for owning what might be the NBA’s best bang-for-the-buck contract. Outside of LeBron James and Kevin Durant’s max deals, as he’ll make less than a million a year between 2012 to 2015 despite being a valued starter on a playoff team. This is probably why the Rockets and Parsons likely went halfsies on renting a party bus for Flores’ trip to the prom:

Big thanks to @houstonrockets @chandlerparsons for this party bus! You made my prom even more special! :) @traceynba twitter.com/steph_marie03/…

Here's a bigger shot of the big ol' bus:

Looks like Parsons is taking this “stay safe” stuff pretty seriously.

We align with Deadspin in saying that preponderance of “hey, famous person … can you do stuff for me?”-tweets is getting a little out of hand. Because Flores was so respectful and pleasant in her plea, though, the Rockets and Parsons just couldn’t help but find a middle ground. Kudos to all involved. And, while we’re at it …

.@rosariodawson will u go with me 2 prom? I'm a huge fan!!! — Kelly Dwyer (@KDonhoops) June 4, 2013

(Hat-tip to the Houston Chronicle and Deadspin.)
